2019 Labor Day Celebrations for Oregon Union Members
Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 2! On this annual holiday celebrating American workers and the contributions of the labor movement, unions are planning opportunities to get together.
Please bring your family and friends, and join your fellow members at one of these events:
PORTLAND: Northwest Oregon Central Labor Council (NOLC) Picnic
- WHEN: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (special program from 1-2pm)
- WHERE: Oaks Amusement Park
- WHAT: OSEA is hosting a free hot dog and hamburger barbeque for members and their families from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., in picnic area 8/8A. NOLC has a speakers program from 1 – 2 p.m. You can also purchase a deluxe ride bracelet for $13.17, good from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Activities also include raffle drawings, a kids’ scavenger hunt and a blood drive (schedule your appointment here using sponsor code NOLC).

- PARKING: Labor Day is the busiest day of the year at Oaks Park. Avoid traffic by taking the FREE Oregon Pacific Railroad shuttle train from SE 4th and Caruthers in Portland. There is plenty of street parking near the McLoughlin Overpass and McCoy Millwork. There will also be free parking at the Portland Opera (in the yellow spaces only); the pin code for the gate will be 1895 on Sept. 2. Download the train schedule here.
ASHLAND: Southern Oregon Central Labor Chapter Picnic
- WHEN: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Lunch served at noon)
- WHERE: Emigrant Lake, Picnic Shelter D
- WHAT: Food and entertainment for the whole family!
- PARKING: Parking at Emigrant Lake is $4 per vehicle
BEND: Central Oregon Central Labor Chapter Picnic
- WHEN: 12:00 – 3:00 p.m.
- WHERE: Pioneer Park
- WHAT: Food, drinks and live music. Invite family and friends! Please bring a dessert to share; everything else will be provided.
EUGENE/SPRINGFIELD: Lane County Central Labor Chapter Labor Day Celebration
- WHEN: Noon – 3:30 p.m.
- WHERE: Splash Pool Picnic Shelter, 6100 Thurston Rd., Springfield
- WHAT: Bring your family and join other union workers and activists in celebrating Labor Day! Lane County Central Labor Chapter will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, door prizes and family fun. Please bring a side dish to share.
SALEM: Marion-Polk-Yamhill Counties Central Labor Chapter (MPYCCLC) 10th Annual Labor Day Picnic
- WHEN: 11 a.m.-1pm (guest speakers from 11 – 11:30 a.m.)
- WHERE: Salem Riverfront Park, 200 Water St. NE, Salem
- WHAT: MPYCCLC is hosting a Labor Day picnic for the union members of allied organizations (friends of labor) and their families. There will be great food, good company and political guest speakers. Free barbeque with all the fixings. Optional: If you can, help raise money for the Marion/Polk Food Bank by bringing a donation of canned food or $2 per person.
