Legislative Education Day: Sign up today!

Legislative Education Day (LED) is a prime opportunity for elected officials at the state level to hear from the experts on education: You!

OSEA members, including ROSE, are invited to take part in this important opportunity to trade facts and wisdom with elected officials. The deadline to register has been extended to Feb. 10. Click here to sign up and be heard.

Set for March 5-6 in Salem, LED is a two-way learning process. First, it’s a chance for us to educate legislators on the important work we do. It’s also a great opportunity for members to dig into the legislative priorities OSEA’s Government Relations team is pursuing.

You’ll also get a chance to hear from statewide officials — speakers at prior LED events have included the governor, secretary of state, state treasurer and labor commissioner. A guided tour of the Capitol building is available as well.

There are three ways to register:

  1. Register online at www.osea.org/events/led.
  2. Click here to download a PDF registration form, print it out and fill in the requested information, and then fax the form to OSEA at 503-588-8307.
  3. Call the OSEA State Office at 800-252-6732 and provide the requested information.

Schedule
LED kicks off with training from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (dinner served afterwards) on Sunday, March 5, at the Grand Hotel in Salem. You’ll receive training on OSEA’s legislative priorities and learn how to make your day at the Capitol fun, informative and memorable.

Next up is a full day at the state Capitol starting at 7:30 a.m., Monday, March 6. We’ll set up appointments with your state representative and senator, and you can watch legislative committees in action. You can also take a guided tour of the Capitol building.

Time release
Members are urged to use vacation days or personal leave to attend LED. If necessary, OSEA can provide time release for members on March 6.

Lodging and meals
Double-occupancy lodging is available at the Grand Hotel on March 5. Lodging is also provided on March 4 to members traveling a long distance. Meals are provided by OSEA. To secure lodging, please register no later than noon on Friday, Feb 10.
