Great news! Our bill to include school employees in implementing and modifying student behavior management plans passed the Oregon House of Representatives unanimously! Please thank your legislator by clicking here.
With House Bill (HB) 3318’s 59-0 approval in the House, the bill now moves to the state Senate for consideration.
“Staff and student safety is a bipartisan issue, and the Oregon House of Representatives gets that. Their unanimous support is a testament to our members’ bravery in telling their stories with clarity and urgency,” Government Relations Specialist Soren Metzger said. “I’m looking forward to continued collaboration in the Senate.”
The bill’s chief sponsors are Sen. Sara Gelser (D) and Rep. Margaret Doherty (D). Regular sponsors are Sens. Michael Dembrow (D), Lew Frederick (D), Tim Knopp (R) and Arnie Roblan (D), and Reps. Chris Gorsek (D), Jodi Hack (R), Susan McLain (D), Bill Post (R), Greg Smith (R) and Janeen Sollman (D).
HB 3318 would require that all school employees working with a student on a behavior management plan be included in its development and informed about how best to carry it out. It also requires districts to complete or revise existing behavioral intervention plans (BIP) within 60 days after an incident resulting in injury to staff or students.
