Know Your Rights! Don’t Fall for Anti-Union Schemes
OSEA members have been receiving emails, calls, text messages, mailers and home visits from the Opt-Out/Freedom Foundation group. Now they want to lure classified (and other public employees represented by OSEA) into an out-of-state group dominated by teachers and management-types.
With slick descriptions, they have one goal in mind: to bust up the strength you have because of collective bargaining.
Who is behind this and what is in it for them? Opt Out Today and the Freedom Foundation are affiliates of the anti-union political machine known as the State Policy Network (SPN). They pretend to be non-political. But the millionaires, billionaires and anti-union organizations behind these groups are trying to weaken workers by attacking OSEA and other unions. The Northwest Accountability Project has researched the Freedom Foundation and the organizations they associate with.
From raising out-of-pocket healthcare costs to cutting pensions to freezing hiring, what these groups want to do is take away everything that OSEA members work hard to protect. Our chapter contracts and state-wide union stand in their way.
They DO NOT do collective bargaining, they DO NOT represent members in your bargaining unit and they DO NOT protect your rights the way that only CLASSIFIED representing CLASSIFIED can.
Our union is proudly led by volunteer elected members who are all classified employees. We work hard at the state and chapter level to:
- Negotiate wage increases, higher employer contributions to healthcare, better contracts and safe working conditions
- Advocate for our interests and respect in the workplace
- Take on tough fights like our “Work Shouldn’t Hurt” campaign and defending PERS. (Read here about our role in the lawsuit against the state’s latest effort to reduce our PERS benefits – an OSEA member is the lead plaintiff.)
In addition to the protections of our chapter contract, OSEA members have the following:
- $1 million occupational liability insurance policy
- $5,000 accidental death and dismemberment benefit
- Access to programs and services to save you money on college, mortgages, legal and consumer benefits
- Professional union field representatives only a phone call away
- Professional development opportunities
- Scholarships
- and more!
Don’t fall for dishonest claims made by those who want to profit by decimating your pay and benefits. If we stand together, we will protect our rights.
