Gov. Brown Orders Schools to Operate In-Person
Today Gov. Kate Brown is announcing that she will take executive action to ensure all public schools provide universal access to in-person instruction, either fully on-site or through a hybrid model. Schools will be required to reopen by the week of March 29 for students in grades K-5 and by the week of April 19 for students in grades 6-12, with some narrow exceptions. The governor will issue an executive order related to this expectation in the coming days.
Although many schools are already offering on-site or hybrid learning, and more are preparing to do so, this is a dramatic change from the existing policy for reopening schools. OSEA stands in support of our members; while it is important for schools to reopen, they must do so safely, and the local collective bargaining process must be respected.
We will continue to share information on this announcement as it is available. As always, for questions relating to your school, district or chapter, contact your chapter president or OSEA field representative.
