Occupational Liability Insurance Plan

The Occupational Liability Insurance Plan provides AFT members broad protection for legal defense costs and court judgments.

  • Up to $1,000,000 per member and $3,000,000 per claim involving multiple insureds of protection for compensatory damages for civil actions arising out of bodily injury or death of students while under the supervision of the member.  This includes civil corporal punishment claims.
  • Up to $1,000,000 of personal injury coverage for libel, slander, defamation of character, violation of the right of privacy or detention, etc.
  • Up to $1,000,000 of protection per member for damage to or destruction of the property of others.
  • Up to $1,000 in bail bond premiums if required for the defense of a suit.
  • Worldwide coverage.

Identity Theft Protection

The AFT is launching a free benefit to protect members against identity theft—the fastest-growing crime in America. We have partnered with CLC ID Protect to offer all members, including retirees, an ID Threat Score as well as assistance in the event you are a victim of identity theft.
Members who register for the free benefit will have an opportunity to purchase additional comprehensive individual or family ID theft protection. These upgraded services include 24/7 credit monitoring, $1 million of ID theft insurance, enhanced fraud and credit resolution services, and more.

Free community college

The Union Plus Free College Benefit, brought to you in partnership with AFSCME, can help you (and your family members) afford a college education without piling on thousands of dollars in student debt.

Under an academic partnership with Eastern Gateway Community College, the Union Plus Free College Benefit offers grants — known as “last dollar scholarships” — that fill the gap between any federal, state and employer education grants for tuition, fees, and e-books for certain online programs at Eastern Gateway.

Lower home mortgage

Whether you are in the market to purchase a home or refinance an existing mortgage, Union Plus offers two mortgage financing providers designed to help union families. Every mortgage provides special hardship assistance in case of disability, lay off, lock out, or strike.
