With Measure 97’s failure, what’s next?
When you take on the biggest and most powerful corporations in the country, you know you’re in for a fight. And while Measure 97 has failed, we have changed the debate around corporate taxation in Oregon. Voters now know that we can no longer afford to have the lowest corporate taxes in the country.
Thanks to you and thousands of volunteers, field staff and eager voters, we talked to 225,000 Oregon voters — more than any campaign in Oregon history. We heard how Oregonians want to provide a quality education to all Oregon students, make health care accessible to all and allow all seniors to retire with dignity. We stood our ground against a $27 million No on 97 campaign, financed by the biggest corporations on the planet.
So what’s next? We take the movement to Salem and keep the momentum going. We have the strongest, largest and most diverse coalition in the state. Measure 97 may not have been the specific answer voters were looking for, but we know we can’t afford complacency or the status quo.
We will be in touch soon with steps you can take to ensure that our students get the education they deserve and to protect our schools and our livelihoods. Please join us as we move onward!
